Resources and Support for Afghanistan

Many in the world are aware of the turmoil and devastation taking place in Afghanistan. It is in times like these that utilization of resources provide crucial support and aid to those in need. The Taliban’s control over Afghanistan has shaken the country for decades, and has reached an all-time high. Thousands fear for their lives and loved ones, as well as the basic humanitarian needs and rights that are being controlled by the Taliban.

One of my near and dear friends, Ahmad Baset Azizi, is from Kabul. I met Baset in 2016 prior to our senior year at the Interlochen Arts Academy. We performed in a recital together in Dallas before heading to Michigan, where we spent the year together as roommates. Baset always worked so hard and stayed focused with his tasks, all while sharing his love and appreciation for life and opportunity in every interaction. He and I shared so many musical and personal connections, and grew closer and closer with each day that passed. He always expressed the goal of creating a better future for Afghanistan through music and education for all. We have kept in touch through social media, and he has taken interest in international political pursuits with internships at the International Relations Council and U.S. House of Representatives. Baset loves every opportunity that he’s tackled in the U.S., and maintains his pride and love for his culture and homeland.

The video above is our first performance together of Máté Hollós’ little known work, Quiet Trumpet Sound with Harp, for trumpet and harp.

Baset has shared on his social media that he and his family are in Kabul, very unsure of their future and Afghanistan’s future. He shares the same fears that many Afghans hold - complete control from the Taliban and its associated ties with al-Qaeda and ISIS. After hearing his perspective and learning about the history of Afghanistan, terrorism, and the decades-long turmoil, I feel compelled to share the available resources that will benefit the protection and provide aid for Afghan citizens (especially women and children) during this time of unrest.
